A Momma on a Mission and Other Stories

Hey Company Girls! I love spending time reading your blogs. It's been a busy couple of weeks around our house. This post may ramble a little bit, but stick with me, pretty please. I became a momma on a mission after my son saved his commissions for 5 months to purchase a certain LEGO set. Matt finally reached his saving goal on Sunday evening only to learn that the set he had been working so hard to get was discontinued. The very set that his parents had seen several times in stores over the holidays and could have purchased. We didn't though, because we wanted Matt to keep up with his goal and learn some patience along the way. After some frantic Internet searching and a lot of phone calls, I found the set. Thank you, Jesus! Matt had that set built in no time; and said he was really glad that he saved his money for it. I used to be bothered by how quickly he could build a set. I worried that he really wasn't enjoying it. Then I thought about how when I get a new book and I can hardly put it down. LEGO sets for him are like books for me.

Camera class was absolutely fabulous! I learned so much. First, I have to get all the pictures off my computer and put them on a flash drive. I would be so upset if something happened to our computer and I lost all those photos. Second, and I loved this thought, the instructor said that when you have a digital camera it doesn't cost anything to actually take a picture, so just take a bunch. I took comfort in knowing I wasn't the only one who goes a little crazy with picture-taking at a sporting event, and then ends up deleting. The perfect shot is rarely planned so just keep trying. There will a class offered soon on sports photography which I definitely plan on attending. This soccer mom needs some tips. There was so much in the class that I could probably fill an entire blog post on that alone, but maybe another time.

Matt's room is finally painted. After going back and forth on the color, we agreed on Desert Fortress by Valspar. It's a light tan color. His room has white trim and navy blue curtains are on the way.

  1. My son LOVES LEGOS. Interestingly, he is twelve. He never cared that much for them when he was younger, but he has gotten into computer animation and he likes to make short movies using legos as his characters and sets. He has just gotten enough money to buy one and I promised to take him today to make the purchase! It is so funny what they get excited about!

Congrats on your photography! I am horrible. Not only do I forget to take pictures but the ones I do take are awful!

Good luck, can't wait to see your pictures!

  2. I think the lesson you taught your son about saving up his money for it was so valuable. I love seeing parents really teach their children and not just merely meet their superficial needs.

  6. My brother loved Legos growing up. And we have a friend who is now 25 but will not take apart one of the big Legos ships that he built when he was a kid. Kids are so creative with Legos. I'm glad you're enjoying the camera class. There's always new things to learn. Have a fun weekend.

  7. I don't think you rambled all that much! I rather enjoyed your post. :) I want to paint and swap my kids' rooms this spring. (Move the boys into the girls' room and the girls into the boys' room for space reasons.) I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up so that the paint will dry more quickly.

    Have a great upcoming week!

  8. Awesome lesson for your son! I'm so glad you were able to find the Lego set he wanted.
My 12 year old son just bought his own PSP with money he's earned over the last two summers running his own lemonade stand. We kept saying no to those little video game things but finally I decided he could handle it. He's the child who is up at 6 a.m. doing his school work before I even shuffle out of my room. He's usually done with school by @ 10. He helps me with the babies, keeps up with his chores...So I just felt like the kid needed a happy. Hope I don't sound braggy...really I'm in awe of the child...he's so unlike me. It's almost like I have the wrong child...but I saw him being born...he's mine. :)
    Have a great week!
